The thought of coordinating family photos can give us mamas anxiety to the point we cancel them before it happens. Trust me I get it. Even as a family lifestyle creator, shooting as a family still stresses me out sometimes. I promise at the end of every shoot, I’ve already canceled at least one of my children from the Robinson family lol.
But because I do this so often, I’m here to give you all the tips on how to prep and have a successful family photo session:
-
- Pick your outfits early and try them on beforehand. The last thing you want is an outfit that doesn’t fit as you intended. Start with one outfit and coordinate around it or take the easier route and have everyone match. #TeamMatchingFamily
- Schedule the session way before or after nap time. Tired kids are no fun for photos.
- Book a photographer that photographs kids. A photographer that works with and understands kids makes a world of a difference. And I think they sprinkle magic dust that makes kids smile.
- SNACKS! Don’t leave home without it. And not just snacks for the kids but for adults too. My husband will eat the kids’ fruit snacks with no hesitation lol.
- Check your photos during the session. Whether you’re shooting for 30 minutes or an hour, check the photos! What’s working and what’s not? Check for bra strap showing, angles that aren’t flattering, etc.
- Have fun! Play music and dance! The perfect picture doesn’t have to be everyone looking at the camera. Some of my favorite photos have been true lifestyle where we’re laughing and Jan gets the magic shot.
Remember, the picture is already perfect with the people in it. Don’t stress it! You blink and they grow up so don’t miss the opportunity to capture the moment.
